Editorial Guidelines

These guidelines apply to every article on Freelance Finder, whether Garrett wrote it or a contributor did. They explain what we publish, how we check and edit articles, and how we handle corrections. The publication terms near the end apply to contributed articles. Want to write for us? What We Publish

Useful, original articles based on real experience, for freelancers, independent consultants, small web agencies and the business owners who hire them. Every article should give the reader a clear point of view supported by examples from the work.

We don’t publish promotional articles, paid placements or link insertions.

Writing and Examples

Write plainly, as you’d explain the work to a colleague. Specific decisions, constraints, outcomes and lessons are what make an article worth reading. If you share project results, explain how you measured them.

Facts and Sources

Cite and link a source next to every claim a reader could check, including statistics, laws, tax rules and product behavior. Use the original source where you can: the agency, the standards body or the company’s own documentation, not a blog that quotes them.

Keep three things distinct: established facts, your own experience, and your recommendations. Your own results don’t need an outside link, but they do need a short note on where the numbers came from.

AI and Writing Tools

Write the article yourself. We don’t accept AI-generated drafts, passages or rewrites, even if you edit them afterward. You may use spelling and grammar checkers to correct your own writing, but not to generate or rewrite passages. Writing about AI tools you use in client work is welcome.

You’re responsible for checking every claim and source. When you send an accepted article, we’ll ask you to confirm you wrote it yourself.

Include external links only where they help the reader check a claim, understand an example or complete a task. Link to the specific resource, not to a product or service page or a company homepage. A product’s documentation or tutorial is fine when it’s the resource the reader needs. Avoid unnecessary links and repeated links to the same destination. Use link text that describes the destination, not a keyword phrase chosen for search.

We don’t accept payment, products or favors for publishing an article or a link. Before keeping a link, ask what the reader would lose without it. We review every link and may remove any that don’t help the reader.

Author Bios

Your bio can include one link to your website, including its homepage, and a link to your Freelance Finder listing if you have one. The homepage restriction above applies to links in the article, not your bio. We mark external website links in author bios as nofollow.

Client Details and Permissions

Get your client’s permission before including identifying details, quotes, screenshots or results from their project. Otherwise, anonymize the example and leave out confidential information. Make sure an anonymized example can’t easily identify the client through a combination of details.

Include credits and permission for any images or other materials you didn’t create.

Editing and Review

When we accept a pitch, we’ll send you a deadline and a link to your draft in WordPress. Submit a complete article: the title, every section in your outline and its sources. It shouldn’t need more research or writing from us.

We edit for clarity and accuracy while keeping your voice. If the article needs changes, we’ll send it back with Notes in the editor, and we’ll ask you to review substantive edits before publication. Acceptance of a pitch doesn’t guarantee publication; that depends on the finished article meeting the agreed brief.

Before You Send Your Article

  • The title and every section in your outline are included.
  • Names, dates, figures, calculations and instructions are checked. Technical steps are tested.
  • Sources are cited and linked beside every claim a reader could check.
  • Your experience and recommendations are clear from established facts, and project results say how they were measured.
  • Images have captions, descriptive alt text, credits and permission.
  • Every link follows the External Links section above.
  • Placeholders, unfinished sections and notes for the editor are removed.
  • The article is proofread and written by you, and your bio and website are filled in under Profile.

Contributor Rights and Republishing

You keep the copyright to your article and give Freelance Finder nonexclusive permission to publish it and make the edits described here. You may republish it elsewhere 30 days after publication, with a note and link identifying Freelance Finder as the original publisher. The acceptance email restates these terms.

Corrections and Updates

If something in an article becomes inaccurate, tell us. We may correct minor errors and broken links. We’ll ask the author to review substantive changes and note significant updates on the article.
